TIMEMOMENTS.COM- At least 40 people, mostly civilians, have been killed and more than 300,000 displaced since the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand broke out on July 24, 2025.

Despite the dangerous situation on the Thailand-Cambodia border and rising tensions, the current ASEAN leader, Malaysia, has called on both countries to make peace.

Timesmoments.com citing The Straits Times edition of July 30, 2025, peace talks between Cambodia and Thailand took place on July 28 in Putrajaya with Malaysia's assistance.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that it is “very important and feasible” to bring both countries to the negotiating table.

During his official visit to Indonesia, Anwar Ibrahim also expressed gratitude to the United States and China for the ceasefire agreement reached between Cambodia and Thailand.

"I spoke with both leaders, listened carefully to their perspectives, and urged them to find common ground to ensure no further loss of life.

With the participation of the United States and China, both sides agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire (on July 28)," Anwar Ibrahim said.

The Malaysian Prime Minister also thanked US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping for their participation in ensuring the ceasefire.

Thai and Cambodian military commanders held further talks on July 29, 2025, one day after the ceasefire began.

They agreed to maintain the ceasefire and not to deploy more troops to the shared border.

The cessation of violence and the success of the peace efforts mediated by Malaysia marked a diplomatic victory for ASEAN.

After the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand was agreed upon, Malaysia, as the leader of ASEAN, sent its military attaché along with a military delegation from 13 countries to the front lines of the Cambodia-Thailand conflict.
