The submission of this proposal marks Fincantieri's readiness to transfer the operational control of the aircraft carrier, which has been retired by the Italian Navy, to Indonesia.
However, Fincantieri will make several modifications and adjustments before handing it over to Indonesia.
It is known that during its operation by the Italian Navy, the Garibaldi carried a STOVL fighter jet platform on its deck.
However, Indonesia desires an aircraft carrier deck platform capable of operating unmanned aircraft and helicopters.
Therefore, adjustments to the ship's configuration are necessary.
"This presentation follows up on previous indications at the Indodefence 2025 exhibition in June, which featured a modified conceptual model of the Garibaldi.
This discussion reinforces previous reports, including one from March 2025, indicating that Indonesia is evaluating the acquisition of the Garibaldi to integrate it into its naval fleet as part of an expanded cooperation agreement with Turkey regarding unmanned aerial vehicles," explained Army Recognition on July 29, 2025.
Therefore, adjustments to the ship's configuration are necessary.
