Defense Analyst Reveals KAAN Purchase as Technological Leap for Indonesia in Stealth Fighter Jet Production
TIMEMOMENTS.COM - Recently, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemhan RI) signed a deal to purchase 48 Turkish-made stealth fighter jets, KAAN.
The KAAN signing ceremony was conducted by the governments of Indonesia and Turkey in Istanbul during the IDEF event on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
This purchase is a continuation of the agreement reached by both parties on June 11, 2025.
In its statement, @kemhanri explained that this cooperation reflects the seriousness of both countries in fostering defense ties.
Specifically, Indonesia will gain the capability to produce high-tech defense equipment.
"Through this cooperation, Indonesia not only acquires high-tech defense equipment but also secures significant strategic opportunities to build a local industrial base as tangible evidence of equal partnership.

The Indonesia-Turkey collaboration on the KAAN project has drawn attention from aerospace and defense analyst Harpreet Sidhu of Global Data.
According to Sidhu, Indonesia is poised to make a technological leap toward producing stealth fighter jets.
This is a long-term process.
"Indonesia's acquisition of KAAN demonstrates a strategic intent to leapfrog to fifth-generation capabilities while developing its domestic defense industry base.
In addition to a guaranteed supply schedule, the agreement with Turkey also includes technology transfer and the use of Indonesia's production lines, both of which are crucial components for long-term self-reliance," Sidhu explained, as quoted by Asia Pacific Defense Reporter on July 29, 2025.
Meanwhile, Aviation Week reported on July 29, 2025, that two Indonesian aerospace companies will participate in the KAAN project.
"State-owned aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia and ground systems manufacturer PT Republik Armorindo Defense will participate in the program alongside TAI.
Defense ties between the two countries have grown closer in recent months. At the same IDEF event, Turkish Roketsan signed a technology transfer agreement with Indonesia covering the Cakir cruise missile system," he said.***
