Russian and Chinese Military Announce Large-Scale Joint Exercises, Causing Japan to Feel Anxious
TIMESMOMENT.COM - A recent announcement revealed that two major countries, China and Russia, will conduct joint military exercises.
As reported by Zona Militar on July 30, 2025, the Chinese and Russian militaries will once again conduct exercises in the Pacific Ocean region.
These exercises are considered part of bilateral military cooperation, which has been strengthened between the two countries in recent years.
The report indicates that the event will be held under the title “Joint Sea 2025” from August 1 to 5, 2025.
The exercise location is in the waters near Vladivostok, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet.
The official announcement released by Chinese and Russian state media not only confirms the continuation of the annual maneuvers.
But also reinforces the strategic nature of the alliance between Moscow and Beijing.
According to a Russian military spokesperson, the exercises will include air defense, anti-submarine warfare, escort operations, maritime route protection, and joint command and control actions, divided into three phases.
No reports have been released regarding the units to be deployed in the exercises, but China is likely to deploy the PLA's Eastern and Northern Theater Commands.
This includes the Type 052D guided-missile destroyers Shaoxing and Urumqi, the Type 903 supply ship Qiandaohu, the comprehensive rescue ship Xihu, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and marine personnel.
On the Russian side, the anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs, the corvette Rezky, the rescue ship Igor Belousov, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and marine personnel will participate. The possible participation of submarines has also been mentioned.
This latest edition is part of the progressive intensification of China-Russia military ties in the naval domain.
Previously, in 2024, the two forces conducted exercises such as Northern/Interaction-2024, held in the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk, alongside Ocean-2024, a large-scale Russian strategic exercise that also involved China.
During this phase, over 400 ships, 120 aircraft, and 90,000 personnel were mobilized, consolidating an unprecedented display of strength in the region.
Meanwhile, Japan's Ministry of Defense said in its annual report earlier this month that China's increasing military cooperation with Russia poses serious security concerns.
According to ABC News, on July 30, 2025, Ministry of Defense spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang said the exercises and patrols were part of an annual cooperation plan.
However, they were not directed at other countries or related to the current international or regional situation.
Zhang, speaking at a monthly press conference, instead criticized the ongoing combat exercises between the US Air Force and Japan and other partners in the Western Pacific.
According to him, Resolute Force Pacific is the largest emergency response exercise ever conducted by the Air Force in the region, according to the US military.
“The US has recklessly flaunted its strength in the Asia-Pacific region and attempted to use military exercises as a pretext to gang up on, intimidate, and pressure other countries, as well as undermine peace and stability in the region,” Zhang said.
The Air Force said the exercise will train its forces to maintain readiness and carry out missions under pressure to demonstrate their ability to defend the United States and its Pacific allies.
