HMS Prince of Wales detected by CN-235 MPA Indonesian Navy

TIMEMOMENTS.COM - The British Royal Navy's Carrier Strike Group, HMS Prince of Wales, is currently on a mission to the Pacific.

One of the HMS Prince of Wales's sailing routes passes through Indonesian waters.

The HMS Prince of Wales fleet passed through waters near Buru Island in the Banda Sea on July 31, 2025.

The Royal Navy fleet's passage was greeted by the Indonesian Navy's Second Fleet Command (Koarmada II) by dispatching its warships.

Koarmada II TNI AL deployed two warships, namely KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata, KRI Frans Kaisiepo, KRI Kapak, KRI Hampala, and the maritime reconnaissance aircraft CN-235 MPA.

The purpose was to conduct a Passing Exercise (Passex) with the Carrier Strike Group HMS Prince of Wales.

"Two flagship units of the Escort Ship Squadron (Satkor) of Koarmada II, namely KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 and KRI Frans Kaisiepo-368, conducted a passing exercise (Passex) with the British aircraft carrier fleet, the United Kingdom Carrier Strike Group, in the waters southwest of Buru Island, Banda Sea," explained @koarmada2 on August 2, 2025.

For Indonesia, the involvement of its warships in the Passex exercise is a demonstration of combat readiness.

One example is when the TNI AL's CN-235 MPA detected the movement of the HMS Prince of Wales fleet from the air.

"The participation of KRI REM-331 and KRI FKO-368 in this exercise underscores combat readiness, maneuverability, and the professionalism of the Koarmada II Task Force in fostering international military cooperation at sea.

The Passex exercise serves as a strategic platform to enhance interoperability among naval forces and strengthen synergy in maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific maritime region," he explained.

The Royal Navy's Carrier Strike Group consists of HMS Prince Of Wales (R09), the destroyer HMS Dauntless (D33), the frigate HMCS Ville De Quebec (332) from Canada, the frigate HMNOS Roald Amundsen (F311) from Norway, and the logistics support ship RFA Tidespring (A136).

The Passex exercise was welcomed by the Indonesian Navy, which emphasized that Indonesia's maritime defense diplomacy is adaptive to the dynamics of regional geopolitical developments.***
